The Tom and Jerry Mug is a beautiful little piece. It is approximately 3¼” tall, and holds about 5½ ounces. Contrary to what many people think, this mug was originally designed for adults – not children. It was first introduced around 1935, at a time when a traditional yuletide cocktail was very popular in the United States. The name of this hot cocktail was a “Tom & Jerry”.
At the time Fostoria introduced the Tom and Jerry Mug into its American line, they categorized this piece as a “Liquor Item”. It is, indeed, the perfect size for a warm cocktail. Eventually, the drink of the same name started to lose its popularity. It would seem that separating twelve eggs and garnishing each drink with wintry spices was quite labor intensive for many folks – no matter how good the cocktail was. The Tom and Jerry Mug stayed in production through 1944; thereafter, it stayed in retirement for many years.
When it was later reintroduced, it was known simply as a Handled Mug, Item 708. Due to its smaller size, this particular mug was included in the American Boxed Youth Gift Set. The set included a Handled Mug (aka Tom and Jerry Mug), a Bowl, and a 6″ Youth Plate. Even though Fostoria’s official name for this piece was now the Handled Mug, it is commonly referred to as the “Baby and/or Youth Mug” by many collectors.
Fostoria Glass produced the Tom and Jerry Mugs in clear crystal. The colored Handled Mugs (Ruby, Cobalt, and White Milk Glass) were produced by Mosser Glass, commissioned by the Fostoria Glass Society of America. The “FGSA” initials can be seen on the bottom of the mug. The White Milk Glass variation is the latest addition, introduced in 2024.

Fostoria Glass Company made several variations of Tumblers in the American pattern. This particular one is the 5 oz. Regular Tumbler. It is called a “Regular” Tumbler because its sides are straight – not flared.
It is one of the smaller Tumblers in the line, and is approximately 3⅝” tall. Personally, I think it is the perfect size for serving orange juice or V-8 juice. They make a nice presentation on a breakfast or brunch table and are lovely to look at (much nicer than serving juice from a can).

The Fostoria American Handled Sherbet was one of the pioneering pieces of the American 2056 line. It is really a beautiful piece – very versatile, and bearing a slim handle on its side. It was discontinued around World War II; therefore, it had a shorter production life than many other American pieces.
The Handled Sherbet is approximately 3½” tall, and can hold about 4½ ounces. I believe it to be one of the more unusual pieces in the 2056 line, and am especially drawn to it. No matter how you use it – either for a drink or a dessert – it is truly a beautiful piece to behold.

This is the Fostoria American Oyster Cocktail; however, when it was first introduced in 1915 – it was called a “Sherbet”. Though it is the same dish, its name did change throughout the years. As time passed it was simply called an Oyster Cocktail, and so it remained. It is approximately 3½″ tall and can hold about 4½ ounces. With a bowl and a stem, this is a unique and interesting dish in the Fostoria American line.

The Fostoria American Footed Cocktail looks quite different from many of the other Drinkware pieces in the American line. It has no stem whatsoever, so it is fairly easy to distinguish from the stemware. A unique and classy piece of glass, it has a round foot that is substantial for its size. It holds about 3 ounces, and is approximately 2⅞” high. The Footed Cocktails were produced for approximately thirty-five years, so we can still find them without too much difficulty.
Even by today’s standards, the Footed Cocktail makes an excellent presentation piece for serving a wide range of cocktails and desserts. With its beautiful shaped design and sturdy base, it is a great choice to use as a martini glass. The Footed Cocktails are also wonderful for serving sorbet, gelato, and other delicious desserts in grand style.
Classic cocktail glasses have an inverted cone shape, and typically hold between 3 to 6 ounces. They are used to serve cocktails without ice, or ‘straight up.’ Most cocktails have wonderful and interesting aromas, so the wide mouth of the Footed Cocktail allows the delicious scent to get very close to the nose of the drinker.

This is the Fostoria American Wine Glass, with a Hexagon Foot. It is about 4½” tall, and holds 2½ ounces. It looks very similar to the 10 oz. Goblet that also has a Hexagon Foot. The main difference is that the Wine glass is much smaller in scale and size than the 10 oz. Goblet.
The Wine glasses were produced for a very long time. In fact, they are one of the pioneering pieces in the American line – being featured in the original 1915 Fostoria American catalog. Because of their long production life, they are still relatively easy to find. To keep them looking their best, you might want to consider using a Wine Glass Cleaner (sponsored link).
The popular American pattern kept the Fostoria Glass Company alive during the Great Depression. When one looks at these two beautifully crafted Wine glasses, it is easy to understand why. They make a perfect pairing all by themselves! They also look wonderful on the dinner table when paired with the 10 oz. Goblet.
