There are a variety of “Ice Tea” glasses in the Fostoria American pattern. Some of the glasses are footed and/or flared, one has a handle, and the one pictured in this post is the Ice Tea – Regular. Most versions hold approximately 12 oz., so the real differences between them can be found in their design and shape. Whether footed, flared, or regular – all are equally beautiful.
The 12 oz. Ice Tea – Regular – has a height of approximately 5”. It has straight sides and does not have a foot.

This is the Fostoria American Low Goblet. It is approximately 5½” tall, and holds about 9 ounces. It was a popular item in the American line and was produced for many years. The Low Goblet is one of my most favorite pieces because it is very versatile. It looks beautiful in just about every situation – from a casual dinner to the most elegant dinner party imaginable.
Fostoria made both Goblets and Tumblers, in addition to a wide variety of other drinkware. While some of the designs of the Tumblers can be similar to a Goblet, the difference can be found in the actual stem. Tumblers do not have the longer stems that you see on the Goblets, or they have no stem at all.

This is the 9 oz. Fostoria American Footed Tumbler. It’s a substantial piece of drinkware, even though it is only about 4⅜” tall. Very versatile in its usage, it would be a welcome addition to the breakfast, lunch or dinner table. It is the perfect size for serving juice at breakfast, or water at dinner. Introduced into the American line around 1938, it was produced for many years thereafter.

The Flared Table Tumbler is one of my most favorite pieces. The flared design is especially pleasing to me, and I find the pieces to be quite elegant and beautiful. There also is a Flared Ice Tea, which is bigger in design and holds about 12 oz. The Flared Table Tumbler pictured here holds about 8 oz. and is approximately 4⅜” high.
This particular Tumbler was also one of the pioneering pieces in the original 1915 supplement catalog of the American line #2056. Therefore, this piece has a long history and was produced for over half a century. The Flared Table Tumbler was discontinued in the early 1970’s, so it will not be as plentiful in the aftermarket as the Flared Ice Tea.

One of the pioneering pieces in the American pattern, the Table Tumbler – Regular – was produced for many years and proved to be a favorite by consumers. Unlike many other Tumblers in the American line, it is not footed in design. Also, the Table Tumbler will have straight sides. It will hold about 8 oz. and has an approximate height of 3⅞”.

The Claret is one of the more unique and fascinating pieces in the American line of footed stemware. It was only produced for a few years before the Fostoria Glass Company closed its doors; therefore, it is not as plentiful in the aftermarket as some other Fostoria American pieces. It was produced in two variations. It can be found with a straight rim (regular) or a flared rim.
The American pattern was introduced in 1915. Over the many years that the Fostoria Glass Company was in business, the dining and drinking habits of American households had changed. Fostoria would make adaptations along the way by introducing new pieces that correlated to the current trend of the day. I believe the Claret was one of those pieces. It was not introduced until 1976, and it was bigger than the previous Wine piece that only held about 2½ oz. In contrast, the Claret has a capacity of 7 ounces and is approximately 4⅞” in height.
