Item Number: M-08
Approximate Size: 3¾″ H
Production Dates: 1915-1920s
n 1915, when this item was introduced, Fostoria Glass described this piece as a “Spoon”. Some collectors prefer to call it a Spooner; however, I shall remain true to Fostoria’s original description and spelling of this item. These type of open containers were used to hold spoons on the table, and they did not have a cover. There is; however, a Sugar & Cover (aka Candy & Cover) in the American pattern that has a strikingly similar bottom.
There are differences in a true Spoon and the Sugar & Covers. I seem to have a different approach than most in determining what item is which. The Spoons have a top diameter measurement of approximately 3¼”, versus the larger 4″ opening on the bottom piece of the Sugar & Cover. The S&C covers won’t fit on an original Spoon. Another factor is the number of petals or rays in the bottom of the piece. The original Spoons have a total of 22 rays, whereas many of the Sugar & Cover bottoms have 24 rays.

Item Number: 674
Approximate Size: 3¼″ H
Production Dates: 1924-1982
The Fostoria American Handled Sugar was offered two ways – with a cover, or without. The uncovered version is about 3¼” tall. Both versions were cataloged as separate items, and sold as such. The covered version is item 673; the uncovered version (shown in this post) is item 674.
This is an item that disproves the age-old myth that we so often hear, “All Fostoria American pieces have three seam lines.” The Sugar and Cover comes from a four-part mould. The sugar bowl has a smooth top rim, void of any serrated edges.

Production Dates: 1935-1985
Fostoria Glass produced several relish dishes in their American pattern. These dishes often had sections within them – from two parts to four parts. The 2-Part Relish was produced for fifty years, more than any other relish dish in the 2056 line. It showcases two beautiful handles, one on each side of the dish. The length measurement stated above is for the overall length, including the handles.

Item Number: BOT-2
Approximate Size: 6¾″ H – 8½ oz.
Production Dates: 1939-1943 Catsup; 1957-1958 Condiment
Ketchup and catsup are simply two different spellings for the same condiment. Since the Fostoria Glass Company used “Catsup” to describe this particular piece, I want to remain true to this item’s history and have described it with their original spelling.
Put simply, the Catsup Bottle & Stopper is quite beautiful. I don’t think I have ever seen another condiment bottle that is prettier. The Stopper is equally as nice, being both solid and hefty. When I want to feel a bit special, I will bring this piece out and serve homemade catsup in it. It looks gorgeous on the table; however, I will tell you … the catsup does not flow out of it as beautifully as it looks. If you were serving thin catsup, you probably would not have a problem, but thick catsup is difficult to “pour”. I found through personal experience that guests wanted to thrust the bottle up and down, or heaven forbid – put a knife in it to get the catsup out. That simply would not do, so now I only use it when serving thinner condiment sauces.

Item Number: BX-01
Approximate Size: 5½” L – 2¼” W – 1½” H
Production Dates: 1940-1948 as Flower Box; 1940-1983 as Oblong Butter Cover
The Flower Box is actually the same piece as the Oblong Butter Cover. Fostoria simply described it as two separate pieces, each with a different use. When it was displayed as a Flower Box, it was classified under the “Vases” category. It was only described and shown as a Flower Box for a few years; thereafter, it was eliminated from the catalogs. The Oblong Butter Cover; however, continued to be in production through 1983.
As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase on eBay. The following link shows available Flower Boxes on eBay. I used the term “oblong butter cover” in the search terms as very few people describe this item as a Flower Box.

Approximate Size: 10″ H
Production Dates: 1924-1925
The Fostoria American Bagged Vase is a hard-to-find item, only being produced for a short period of time. While similar in shape and overall size of the 10″ Cupped Vase, the differences between the two can be seen in the top opening. Both pieces of glass came from the same mould; however, each was shaped with a different neck. The Bagged Vase is much more difficult to find than the Cupped Vase.
